Based on 14 years of research and study, the paper Andean Condor Conservation Project (Proyecto de Conservación del Cóndor Andino), done by several employees of Urbaser’s Chilean subsidiary KDM, won the 2019 Latin American Green Award (Premios Latinoamérica Verde).

The Award is known as “the Oscars in the environmental protection field”. Each year, the awards are given to scientific projects that make significant contributions to the protection of bio-diversity and promotion of sustainable development in Latin America.

Andean Condor Conservation Project discusses and emphasizes the protection of Andean condors. KDM employees started studying the Andean condors that lived in the Loma Los Colorados landfill (operated by KDM) in 2006. They observed and recorded the characteristics and eating habits of the condors as well as the landfill’s impact on their population. This research project provides valuable insights as to how to better protect this species.
